May meeting – Cameos and Other Carvings in Jewellery

Meeting is May 4 starting at 8 pm, in-person and online

The topic of this month’s presentation is “Cameos and Other Carvings in Jewellery” by club member, Tania Ivaniouchkina. Tania has had a lifelong passion for gems. After a brief career as an engineer in her native country of Ukraine, and 25 years as a high school teacher in Toronto, Tania found her true calling in Gemmology. She became a fellow of the Canadian Gemmological Association, where she remains an active member.

She is passionate about phenomenal stones and is working on her collection. Her favourite stone is opal, and she hopes to one day visit the opal mine in Coober Pedy.

Even though the government has loosened restrictions, at least for this one meeting, we will still be following several of the same rules as earlier.

-Masks must be worn at all times. Please bring your own, but we will try to have extras available if needed.

-There will be no food served during the meeting and we ask that you please not bring any food or drinks in with you. Because no food will be served, there will not be the usual “social break” before the guest speaker begins. Doors will be open by 7:30 PM, so please come earlier rather than later and we can all catch up with each other before the meeting begins.

A few side notes for the meeting

If anybody has bookmarks for the 2020 Show, please bring them to the May meeting. They will be updated with 2022 stickers for the September show.

If you are a member of the GMSC and are interested in getting more involved please consider being our Vice President or Program Director (the person who co-ordinates our guess speakers). Please contact Kevin Kidd if you wish to help our club to continue on.
