Answer to previous Quiz:  It might be a natural ruby or it might be a synthetic ruby. The fact that the ring is VERY OLD does not guarantee the fact that it is earth mined ruby.   The first synthetic ruby was manufactured in 1877 by Auguste Verneuil and his assistant Edmond Frémy. And in 1902, he announced the development of his flame-fusion process for synthesizing corundum commercially.  So, just enjoy the ring and memories of your ancestors!

(The question was: Your grandma left you a ring with a red stone.  The stone’s refractive index points to a ruby.  The ring is very old – it was your grandma’s.   GRANDMA’s!.  It must be a natural ruby…)

Quiz for today:  You see a ring with a transparent red stone.  What can it be? Can you name 10 transparent red (can have pink and orange overtones) stones?
